3D animation outsourcing in Malaysia

Mirayi is a Malaysian 3D animation studio. Since 2005 we have produced game cinematics, animated TV series, feature-film animation and TV commercials for studios, publishers and broadcasters in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Why studios outsource animation to Malaysia

Malaysia has built a screen-production industry with government support for studios and for international productions. Studios in Asia, Europe and North America come to Malaysia for production capacity, for experienced teams, and for the Film in Malaysia Incentive, a 30% cash rebate on qualifying production spending in the country.

Mirayi is one of the longest-running animation studios in the country. We have MSC Malaysia status and are licensed by the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS). We also act as a point of contact for international producers and animation companies who want information on co-production and work-for-hire options in Malaysia.

What you can outsource to us

  • Game cinematics and cutscenes: pre-rendered trailers and in-engine story sequences in Unreal and Unity.
  • Gameplay animation, game assets and rigging: clean topology for game engines and animator-friendly rigs.
  • Animated TV series: from pre-production through to delivery, with a dedicated team for your series.
  • Animated feature films: animation production for feature projects.
  • TV commercials: short, high-impact animated spots.
  • Visual development and concept art: characters, environments and style frames.

You can see examples in our production portfolio. Our service work includes the animated feature film Nezha, the series Tobot V, Pokemon: Bidoof's Big Stand, Arthur and The Minimoys, Carbot and Firerobo, and the commercial for the mobile game Anipang.

Production stages we cover

Pre-production: concept design, character design, storyboard and mood boards.

3D production: modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, lighting and VFX.

Post-production: compositing, editing and rendering.

You can hire us for the whole pipeline or for any stage. See also our business page.

How a project runs

  1. Negotiation. You share your brief. We ask questions, then send a plan and a quote.
  2. Planning. Budget, schedule and pipeline are agreed, and a production team is dedicated to your project.
  3. Production. We work in review rounds, so changes and new ideas are handled while the work is in progress.
  4. Delivery. We deliver the agreed formats and files on schedule.

Why Mirayi

  • Experience since 2005: series, feature-film, game and commercial work for international clients.
  • We make our own IP too: original series such as Neon Luna, Red & Wolf, Mask Masters and MegaBear mean our team understands story and episode production from the inside. See our original IP.
  • Government-recognised: MSC Malaysia status and a FINAS licence.
  • Incentive-ready: we can talk you through how the FIMI cash rebate fits your project before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

What does 3D animation outsourcing mean?

You hire an external studio to produce part or all of your animation, while you keep the creative direction and the rights to your project. Studios outsource to add capacity for a series, to reach a game launch date, or to bring in a specialist team without hiring permanently.

Can I outsource only one production stage?

Yes. We provide full animation production, and we also accept requests for specific stages such as 3D animation, rigging, lighting, compositing or 2D illustration and design.

What can Mirayi produce?

Game cinematics and in-engine cutscenes, gameplay animation, game assets and rigging, animated TV series, animated feature films, TV commercials, and visual development and concept art. We also develop our own original animated series.

What should I send to get a quote?

A short brief is enough to start: what you want made, the length or number of episodes, style references or sample frames, the stages you need, your deadline and the delivery format. If you have scripts, storyboards or designs, send those too. We reply with questions, a plan and a quote.

How much does outsourced animation cost?

It depends on the length, the style, the complexity of the characters and environments, and the deadline. We quote after we have seen your brief. If your project qualifies for the Film in Malaysia Incentive, the rebate can reduce your net production cost.

Is there a government incentive for producing animation in Malaysia?

Yes. The Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI) offers a cash rebate of 30% on qualifying Malaysian production spending, administered by FINAS. Read our guide for how it works and what to check before you start.

Do you work in Unreal Engine or Unity?

Yes. Our game team handles pre-rendered trailers and real-time, in-engine story sequences in Unreal and Unity, plus gameplay animation, optimised assets and animator-friendly rigs.

Can we communicate in Chinese?

Yes. Our team communicates in both Chinese and English. Chinese-speaking clients can discuss requirements, budgets and schedules directly in Chinese, and can reach us by email, Lark or WeChat. 我们可以用中文沟通。

How do we work together across time zones?

Malaysia is UTC+8. Our working day overlaps fully with Asia and with the morning hours in Europe. For the Americas, review calls are normally set at the start of our day, which is the end of yours. We agree a review schedule in the planning stage.
